Open Source Consultant (any gender)
Location: Nuremberg / Remote
Work Schedule: Full-time / Part-time
Do you love open source and know how to use it to create real value? As an open-source consultant, you'll help our clients implement, develop, and maintain their IT infrastructure—using the best tools the community has to offer. With us, you'll be part of a team that's just as passionate about open source as you are.
About NETWAYS
Since 1995, we have been helping companies build, operate, and further develop their IT infrastructures using the right open-source technologies—with a focus on monitoring and system management. We also offer training, host our own conferences such as OSMC, and provide managed services from our data center in Nuremberg.
What drives us: software with open-source code and a community where knowledge is shared rather than kept under lock and key. We have over 95 employees from more than 17 different countries—working in flat hierarchies with plenty of room to contribute their own ideas.
Your Role and Responsibilities
- Consulting and Implementation of Solutions Based on Open-Source Tools
- Analysis of existing IT infrastructures and development of customized solutions
- Support for the automation and optimization of IT systems
- Conducting workshops and training sessions on open-source tools
What You Bring to the Table
- A degree or vocational training in the IT field is an asset
- Solid knowledge of Linux
- Solution-oriented and independent work
- Strong communication skills, team spirit, and a structured approach to work
- Excellent knowledge of German and English
- Optional experience or interest in the following areas:
- Monitoring & Observability: Icinga, Grafana, Prometheus

Your Role and Responsibilities
- (Further) Development of Frameworks and Existing Icinga Modules
- Planning, Design, and Implementation of New Features
- Active Participation in the Further Development of Icinga
- Exploring different technologies to identify innovative ways to integrate them into existing software
- Sharing knowledge and experience to continuously improve the team's technical skills
- Close collaboration with the Development, UI/UX, Product Management, and Community teams
- Working independently and in a results-oriented manner within the framework of sprints
What You Bring to the Table
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, business informatics, or a comparable degree with relevant experience, or a comparable level of knowledge
- Relevant professional experience in software development using PHP
- Proficiency in database systems such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Experience implementing UI/UX requirements and professional proficiency with HTML, CSS, and CSS preprocessors
- Proficiency with an IDE of your choice, as well as GitHub and GitLab
- Proficiency in Linux
- Optional experience in the following areas:
- Contributing to an Open Source Project

- Experience with or interest in learning the Go programming language
