The effort behind every report
Reports and data reconciliations for your IT reporting occur on a regular schedule and require the same manual work each time: exporting, copying, checking, and sending.
Copy-Paste at the End of the Month
Manually copy numbers from multiple systems, format them, and send them. Every month all over again, often under time pressure.
Data is diverging
Inventory, CMDB, and monitoring all provide different information. Without regular cross-checking, no one knows which source is correct at any given time.
Errors & Missing Documentation
Manual reports contain typos and outdated figures, which is problematic for decision-making and for audit documentation.
Four Steps to Automated Reporting
Here’s how we work with you: We review your reports and sources and support the automation process all the way through to ongoing operations.
Analysis & Concept
We'll take a look at your recurring reports and reconciliations: which sources, which recipients, what frequency, and what format.
→ We automate clearly defined processes.
Setup & Integration
n8n is set up in your environment and connected to your data sources, databases, inventory, and distribution channels.
→ A centralized pipeline instead of scattered scripts and Excel macros.
Commissioning & Data Synchronization
The workflows go live: Data is pulled according to the schedule, reconciled, generated as a report, and automatically distributed.
→ If there are any discrepancies, the workflow flags them, and a person decides how to proceed.
Support & Operations
Upon request, we can handle the entire operation and maintenance of the workflows, or train your team so they can take on these tasks themselves.
→ We add new sources and formats without requiring you to maintain scripts.
What’s Happening Behind the Scenes
Four building blocks for your IT reporting that can be implemented individually or in combination, depending on where you have the greatest leverage.
Retrieve data from sources
As part of the schedule, the workflow retrieves data from monitoring systems, inventory, databases, and APIs—always the same fields, always formatted the same way.
Result: No more manual exports from multiple tools.
Reconcile & Clean Up
Data records are compared, duplicates and discrepancies are identified, and data is reconciled—for example, between the CMDB, inventory, and actual conditions.
Effect: a reliable source of truth.
Generate Report
The consolidated data is automatically compiled into a finished document in the familiar layout, which can be available as a PDF, Excel file, or dashboard.
Result: a print-ready report with no manual work required.
Distribute & Archive
The report is sent to the appropriate recipients via email or chat and is stored in an audit-proof manner, so it can be retrieved at any time.
Result: On-time delivery and complete documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Solution
What is IT reporting?
IT reporting compiles regular analyses of an IT infrastructure's availability, utilization, assets, and security. Typical examples include SLA reports, inventory reports, or audit documentation, which are sent at regular intervals to management, customers, or auditors.
How do I automate reports?
A schedule in n8n triggers the workflow, such as nightly or at the end of the month. The workflow retrieves the data from your sources, processes it, generates the report in the desired format, and sends it to the recipients. We'll set up your existing reports once, and after that, they'll run on their own.
Is it possible to automate data reconciliation?
Yes. The workflow reads data records from two or more systems, compares them according to defined rules, and identifies duplicates, gaps, and discrepancies. Unambiguous cases are automatically standardized, while unusual cases are reported to a human reviewer for verification—on a regular and traceable basis.
What is a CMDB reconciliation?
A CMDB (Configuration Management Database) tracks the target state of your IT assets. A CMDB reconciliation regularly compares this target state with the actual state—for example, using monitoring or inventory data—and highlights where entries are missing, outdated, or inconsistent.
In what formats is the report available?
Depending on the recipient: as a PDF for sending, as an Excel or CSV file for further processing, or as a Grafana dashboard for viewing at any time. The workflow can also generate multiple formats at the same time and distribute them to different recipients.
What can n8n automate?
n8n connects systems to create workflows: retrieve data, transform it, synchronize it, generate documents, send notifications, and trigger actions in other tools. Over 400 integrations are included natively; everything else runs via API, either in-house or as a managed service through NETWAYS Web Services.
Does the data stay in-house?
Yes. n8n runs in your own data center or, in compliance with the GDPR, in the NMS Cloud in Germany. Reports and reconciliations process your data locally, without it passing through an external SaaS platform—which is especially important when dealing with sensitive inventory and business data.
